Dr. Ken Fern, BSc, MD, FRCSC, CIME

Dr. Fern is an Orthopaedic and Spinal Surgeon certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. Dr. Fern has been actively involved in numerous research activities and has published research in peer-reviewed journals. Dr. Fern is the only subspecialty trained spinal surgeon in the Durham region. Dr. Fern is dedicated to providing the best medical care possible to people afflicted and disabled with spinal problems. He is now able to offer treatment to patients who are not candidates for surgery. Through the Durham Spinal Decompression Clinic, he is able to offer a new state of the art treatment. He pre-screens patients at the Clinic and oversees the use of the revolutionary DRX-9000 machine to provide a non-surgical and non-invasive approach to spinal decompression through computer controlled motorized spinal traction. He works closely with the dedicated staff to provide solutions and pain relief for chronic spinal problems.

Dr. Alykhan Jamal, BA(Hon), DC, CSCS

Born and raised in Scarborough, Ontario, Canada, Dr. Jamal has been interested in the human body since a knee injury in 1997 ended his dream for Professional Sports. Since, he has volunteered as a Kinesiologist Assistant to gather insight into the world of Physical Therapy. He received a Combined Honours Bachelor of Arts Degree at York University, in Toronto, Ontario, in both Philosophy and Kinesiology and Health Sciences. He then attended D’Youville College in Buffalo, NY, where he graduated with his Doctor of Chiropractic. Dr. Jamal’s passion for his profession is displayed with every patient he treats. His general philosophy is to tailor every treatment to the specific needs of the patient. Dr. Jamal is the Clinic Director of the Durham Spinal Decompression Clinic and the Durham Spine & Sports Clinic where they are Continuing to Revolutionize the Treatment of Severe and chronic Neck and Back Pain.

Riza Dizon, PT

Riza has a Bachelor’s Degree in Physiotherapy from CLDH (Central Luzon Doctors’ Hospital Institute) from the Philippines and continued her Physiotherapy education at Thompson Rivers University (Open Learning Program). She was successful in her Physiotherapy designation in 2008. She continued her education to ensure the quality of care for her patients by completing various post-graduate courses. This includes extensive MSK courses for the whole body, Advanced Physical Therapy Persistent Pain Certification Program, FitforeGolf Trademark Physical Therapy, mulligan concept (upper quadrant) and Vestibular Rehabilitation Certificate. Riza loves to spend her time outdoors hiking, running, and swimming. Riza and her family love going on long drives to Disneyworld. She also has a passion for baking and taking care of her houseplants.
